CHALLENGE

The client company was in the process of building a new, global eCommerce platform from the ground up. In order to support this significant, strategic activity, as well as to continue to support the current activities of each of the individual Market platforms and projects, the company combined it’s multi-siloed, individual PMOs into a single, Global PMO and placed a seasoned Sr. Director in charge to head up this effort.

SOLUTION

BGW Group validated the current Global PMO maturity by performing a bottom-up assessment around their Project Management functions and a top-down assessment of their Portfolio Management capabilities.  50 associates were interviewed to assess the current state of both the Project Management function as well as Portfolio Management capability.  We defined Program scope and a 12 month roadmap for rollout and implementation for both Project Management and Portfolio Management improvements.   We also partnered with the Sr. Director in order to drive both executive sponsorship and employee engagement and to discuss structure and roles of team members and how to optimize them.   Finally, we created and delivered a go-forward strategy that builds and improves current PMO capabilities based on the rich assessment data gathered through the engagement.

RESULT

In the near term, the PMO leadership now has a clear understanding of what is working and what needs to be improved, so that they can focus their efforts on those initiatives that will bring the greatest value to the PMO maturity. Going forward, the PMO leaderships now has an actionable strategy and is able to plan for the improvement of both Project Management functions and Portfolio Management capabilities over a 12 month time horizon, and beyond.
